Breathing and Rhythm

Objectives: Focus on integrating breathing (and maybe sighting) into your normal stroking rhythm.
"It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing!"

Warm-up; Dist = 400
1 X 400 FS - breathe toward the wall, NOT the ceiling

Breathing Drills 8 X 50; Dist = 400

Perform each drill as 2 X 25 (in other words, stop at every wall and re-focus!)

  1. B2-R - breathe every other stroke, to the right
  2. B2-L - like above, left
  3. B3 - for 3, 4 & 5 be careful how you count; e.g. for B3: count 1-2-breathe (not 1-2-3-breathe)
  4. B4
  5. B5
  6. B2, B3, B2, B3... - very popular with distance and OW swimmers
  7. B1 - very good rotation drill, but don't get dizzy!
  8. No breathing - very good relaxation drill
